The latest 4th Generation Ipod Touch models have been on sale for a few weeks now  in Ireland and the UK.

Amazon UK  have some good prices on Ipod Touch - helped by the strong Euro. They are  selling the 32Gb for £231 - which works out at €270 delivered to Ireland  when you add the extra Irish VAT.

Tomorrow (9th Sept 2008) Apple is expected to announce a cut in the price of the ipod touch. Along with this Steve Jobs will announce an increaced capacity version of the ipod touch. The price cut is thought to bring the price of an ipod touch down to that of an iphone. The ipod touch currently retails for as little as €280 in Ireland and is available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB versions.

 On July 11th 2008 Apple released the 2.0 firmware upgrade for the ipod touch, this includes access to the app store which gives users to install both apple made and third party programmes such as dictionaries and games. Apple now allows third party developers to make applications for the iPod Touch after paying a fee to join the development team. They then set their own price for the application, the developer can expect to recieve 70% of the sale. Many of the thousands of ipod touch applications are free so no need to get ou the credit card!

The Apple iPod Touch is noticably thinner and lighter than the iPhone, however it lacks some of the iPhone’s features which include -  a microphone, camera, physical buttons for volume control, Bluetooth capability and GPS receiver. Although the iPod Touch has an internal speaker, it is only used for basic clicks, such as the pressing of a key on the keyboard, and cannot be used as a loudspeaker for the iPod. However, based on the fact that the only way to obtain an Apple iphone in Ireland is to enter into a 12 month contract with O2 I would ask readers in Ireland to consider the option of settling for the ipod touch. Trust me, as soon as you take one look at your new touch all queries about the iphone will cease. The ipod touch is truly a wonderful piece of technology and i sure won’t be letting go of mine any time soon! 

APPLE’S SUPER PHONE TO BYPASS IRISH SHOPS - There are still no plans to sell the Apple iPhone in Ireland - despite the phone being released for sale in the UK over two weeks ago Irish Independent. A spokesperson for Apple said there is no scheduled date for the sale of the item in the Republic of Ireland. No doubt there will be countless disappointed gadget boffins in Ireland who were looking forward to getting their hands on an iPhone, which sold over one million units in just 74 days when it first went on sale in the US.

A recent voter’s poll in an American college has found that 20% of students would be willing to sell their right to vote for an iPod Touch!
